Google Buzz Privacy Issues – The Latest Buzz on the Internet

The Internet was abuzz over Google Buzz, the latest social networking platform offered by Google to its users. Google introduces Buzz as a new means of conversation on things ‘you find interesting’. Just like all other social networking sites and forums Buzz has its own advantages and disadvantages. It comes integrated with your Gmail account.

When you saw the Buzz icon in your Gmail menu for the first time you might have wondered to see that you’ve already got followers and followings out of your existing contacts in Gmail. How come that happened? Well, the main idea behind introducing Buzz was to provide Gmail users a platform where they can immediately start conversation with their existing friends in the Gmail list. They don’t have to set up a new account and then again start from the scratch – that is, the process of befriending with people, sending invitations and wait, etc. Though it was entirely with a good intention to help Google users, unfortunately, the reverse side of it was that it hampered users’ privacy.

With automatically generated Followers and Following lists (which were ‘public’ by default) comprising the contacts who you frequently communicate, Buzz exposed your private contact details to some extent. Buzz did not contain privacy settings options that could be set manually. Now, Google has rectified this major drawback of Buzz. And to make sure that Google doesn’t mean to impose Buzz on its users it has provided two choices – ‘Do not show Buzz in Gmail’, and ‘Disable Google Buzz completely.’ So, what are you waiting for? Shed all your doubts and Buzz on as long as you wish!
